Boy, 13, burned in Corner Brook fire

A boy from Corner Brook is being treated for burns at the Janeway children's hospital in St. John's.

A boy, 13, from Corner Brook is being treated for burns at the Janeway children's hospital in St. John's, after an incident that appears to have involved fire and gasoline.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said the force received a complaint that children had lit a fire in the woods off Ford's Road on Thursday afternoon.

Moments later, authorities received another emergency call about a boy who was screaming in pain in a parking lot.

A witness told CBC News she saw three boys heading into a wooded area with what looked like a red gasoline can.

There were scorch marks in the woods, where neighbours say teenagers often hang out.

Police describe the boy's burns as significant, although there was no update Friday on his condition.

The RNC is still investigating the case.
