Newfoundland and Labrador wooden boat builders say provincial regulations are making it difficult for them to harvest the wood they need to build boats.

Chris Osmond is a director of the Wooden Boat Museum of Newfoundland and Labrador.

He says provincial permits limit where people can cut trees and boat builders can't cut wood wherever they like anymore.

"It's difficult to get the right kind of wood depending on the place you have for your permits," Osmond said. "So, we're working on some issues in that area to see if we can get a boat builders' guild where boat builders can access good wood wherever they can find it"

Osmond says the group will be discuss the wood supply problem at the fourth annual Wooden boat Conference Sept. 23-24 in Trinity.
