2 new judges appointed to provincial court

The government has appointed two legal veterans to the provincial court bench, filling vacancies in Stephenville and St. John's.

The Newfoundland and Labrador government has appointed two new judges to fill provincial court seats in St. John's and Stephenville.

Lynn E. Cole has been appointed to Stephenville provincial court, while Mark T. Linehan has been appointed to the bench in St. John’s.

Cole started March 6, while Linehan started two days earlier. The government announced the appointments in a statement Thursday.

Cole has been a lawyer in the province since 1991, most recently working as a solicitor with the Newfoundland and Labrador Legal Aid Commission in Corner Brook.

Linehan has been practicing law since 1996, and prior to being appointed to the bench, was working as a provincial Crown attorney in Gander.

The majority of trials in the province take place in the provincial court system.
