Teen killed by forklift in workplace accident
WorkSafe NB and RCMP investigating
WorkSafe NB is investigating after a 19-year-old was killed in a workplace accident at Design Built Mechanical Inc. in Charlo on Tuesday morning.
RCMP say a forklift fell on top of the young employee about 9 a.m. and he was trapped underneath.
The young man was pronounced dead by responding paramedics, Sgt. Alain Tremblay said in a release.
The name of the victim, who was from Charlo, is not being released until his family is notified.
Police believe two forklifts collided in the storage yard behind the business, Tremblay said.
WorkSafe NB health and safety officers are assessing whether there were any violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, said spokeswoman Beverly Stears in a news release.
They are also trying to determine how the incident could have been prevented, she said.
RCMP are assisting with the investigation.
