Some people at the University of Moncton are upset at their university because of a new promotional video that includes a scene of two students kissing in the library.

The university posted the promotional video online emphasizing that the French language is a reason to go to there.

"Notre langue c'est une fierté. Une force. C'est la langue du progres," is the message at one point in the video.

But in French, the word for "language" — langue — is also the word for "tongue."

And with the video including a brief scene in which two students are kissing between rows of books, the video is drawing criticism from some at the university.

Marie-Noëlle Ryan, the president of the university's professors' and librarians' association, calls the video "pathetic."

"It's the way it's like selling the university, like it's a beer product," Ryan said.

"And it's not that way that you will recruit serious students and people who really want to learn and have good diplomas."

Simon Paulin, a student at the university, said he agrees with Ryan's negative opinion of the advertising campaign.

"I can understand how they are trying to bring popularity to it because young people think about it a lot," said Paulin.

"But still I don't think they should focus on that. It's not really professional, cause we're here to learn."

There are some people on campus are not bothered by the video.

Sebastien Mallet said he thinks the critics to the video are over-reacting.

"I thought that's awesome. I really enjoyed it," he said.

"I think that's what young students want to see. There is some controversy over the little kiss in the library, but it's not the point of the publicity."

The university stands by the video.

It will soon hit the airwaves on Radio-Canada television and will play until the end of March.
