Company conducts research into cancer treatment

Fire ravaged the building housing Sackville's Public Health office and Soricimed Biopharma Inc. Monday night.

Sackville fire Chief Craig Bowser said firefighters were dispatched about 6:45 p.m. and arrived on the scene to find one side of the structure engulfed in heavy smoke and fire.

Fightfighters battled the blaze for up to three hours before it was contained, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Soricimed is a private company that conducts research into cancer treatment.

Bowser said all the company's chemicals, materials and equipment relating to cancer research were removed by the building's owner and have been stored appropriately.
