Search for missing kayaker in Bathurst scaled back
RCMP say extensive water, ground, air searches turned up no sign of Donald Lavigne, 60
RCMP have scaled back the search for a missing kayaker near Bathurst, but say they will continue to conduct patrols in the area.
Donald Lavigne, 60, of Gloucester-Junction, was reported missing on Oct. 2 after he failed to return from a kayaking trip.
"Extensive searches conducted by the RCMP dive team, as well as ground and air searches have returned no sign of Mr. Lavigne in the areas where his kayak and life jacket were located," Cpl. Dan Dorais stated in a news release on Oct. 7.
Lavigne’s kayak was found about 0.5 kilometres south of the Route 11 overpass on Oct. 3. His life-jacket was found on a rock in the middle of the Nepisiguit River, near Salmon Beach, the same day.
The Bathurst Police Force, ground search and rescue teams from Restigouche-Chaleur and Miramichi, other partner agencies and members of the public have participated in the search, said Dorais.
