Quebec man charged with sexual assault, confinement
Moncton witnesses saw a naked woman running in a parking lot, yelling for help
A 54-year old Quebec man charged with aggravated sexual assault and forcible confinement in connection with an incident in Moncton last month has been remanded in custody until a bail hearing on Monday.
Maurice Cloutier made a brief appearance in Moncton provincial court on Friday.
The Crown prosecutor told the court he plans to object to Cloutier's release.
Cloutier was charged following an incident on April 25, when witnesses in Moncton called 911 after they saw a young woman running naked in a parking lot near the intersection of Church Street and Mountain Road.
Police say the woman was escaping from a transport truck and screaming for help.
But the transport truck left the scene before police could stop it.
"We gathered information, gathered witnesses statements from different individuals nearby that saw and were able to describe the vehicle and so on and so the investigation led to Quebec just south of Montreal," said RCMP Cpl. Mike Gaudet.
Gaudet said the victim is a 24-year-old Moncton woman.
Cloutier was located by Quebec police on Wednesday, his truck was searched and he was arrested.
