Pets die in Rusagonis house fire

A young couple lost several pets in a fire Thursday night in Rusagonis, a small community south of Fredericton.

The Canadian Red Cross says the blaze started at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday at a home on Post Road in Rusagonis.

A man and woman in their 20s were not home at the time.

The Oromocto Fire Department sent a dozen firefighters to the house fire.

The fire was under control at 8:30 p.m., according to the Oromocto Fire Department.

Oromocto Fire Chief Jody Price said the family lost one dog and two cats in the fire.

The house was damaged extensively in the fire, according to the relief organization.

The Oromocto Fire Department says all of the home's contents were lost in the blaze. The department says the fire started in the home's air exchange system.

The couple are staying with nearby relatives and are getting help from the Canadian Red Cross with emergency purchases.
