RCMP in New Brunswick are asking drivers to stay off the roads as they grapple with accidents and whiteout conditions Sunday night.

Sections of routes 11 and 113 on the Acadian Peninsula are closed due to whiteout conditions. RCMP are also asking drivers to avoid Highway 2 near Memramcook.

"Please don’t travel unless necessary," New Brunswick RCMP tweeted Sunday evening.

Police are also asking people to drive slowly near Oromocto.

Earlier Sunday, traffic was being diverted from Highway 2 near Sackville because the westbound section of the road was closed.

Highway 2 between Calhoun and Scoudouc was also closed due to a collision.
