New Brunswick sweeps new mayors into office in three of its largest cities

New Brunswickers hit the polls en masse to elect, or re-elect, mayors, councillors and members of their local education and health councils on Monday.

Polls closed at 8 p.m. and preliminary results are mostly online now.

There were 1,173 candidates running in local races across the province. 

There were new mayors elected in Moncton and Saint John and even a new mayor in Fredericton with Mike O'Brien defeating longtime incumbent Brad Woodside.
