Repairs on a water main break in Moncton are expected to be completed by Friday morning.

The water main break happened Thursday morning at 6 a.m. on Main Street between Cameron and Weldon streets.

The area is currently closed to traffic and city officials are asking people to use an alternate route.

Because of the water main break, some residents of Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe may experience reduced water pressure and discolouration.

Discolouration is expected to occur periodically for the next few days. If residents are still experiencing discoloured water after a few days, city officials say they should open their hot and cold taps for 30 minutes to flush their residence’s internal plumbing. If the water does not clear up after flushing, residents are asked to call the city’s 24-hour dispatch line at (506)859-2463.

The discolouration of water poses no health risk. If water is discoloured, city officials say not to wash white clothes as it may cause staining.
