A man in his late forties died Nov. 13 in a workplace accident at the Sun Gro peat moss harvesting site in Inkerman, about 15 kilometres north of Tracadie-Sheila.

A statement from WorkSafeNB says the man died from "crushing injuries involving a hydraulic conveyor."

WorkSafeNB is conducting an investigation onsite and says a stop-work order has been issued to Sun Gro Horticulture Canada Ltd. so as to not disturb the scene.

The U.S. company has other plants in Portage and Kent, New Brunswick.

The company's operations in Lamèque closed in July. Some employees from the Lamèque plant were transferred to Inkerman.
