Man arrested in fatal Fredericton bar assault
Will face charges in December in Walter 'Buddy' Wheeler's death
The Fredericton Police Force has arrested a man in connection with a fatal incident outside a local bar last month.
Walter "Buddy" Wheeler, 54, died last Wednesday as a result of injuries he suffered during an altercation outside of the Twenty-20 nightclub at about 2 a.m. on Sept. 29.
A man in his thirties was arrested on Monday as part of the ongoing investigation, Const. Danielle Carmichael stated in a release on Tuesday.
The man has been released and is expected to be in court in December to face charges in relation to Wheeler’s death, she said.
The man's name has not been released.
The police investigation is continuing and officers are still requesting information from anyone who may have been around the Twenty-20 bar on Regent Street, Carmichael said.
Wheeler, a father of four, was beaten in the parking lot outside the club in the early hours of Sept. 29.
He was taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital where his condition deteriorated. He died of his injuries last Wednesday.
Police have said they believe there may have been a second victim involved in the altercation.
An eyewitness told CBC News a member of the Bacchus motorcycle gang was involved.
