An infant and three other people have been safely removed from a house fire on St. Mary's First Nation on Wednesday morning.

Fredericton Fire crews responded to the blaze after somebody passing by noticed flames in front of the house.

Along with the six-month-old infant, two teens and an adult woman were inside the house at the time.

Sgt. Tim Sowers said he believes two of the residents were sleeping when the fire started.

He said they were all removed with the help of neighbours.

Sowers said the fire is being considered suspicious.

The police did make one unrelated arrest at the scene of the fire.

A man drove up to the residence on an all-terrain vehicle. Powers said officers arrested the man for impaired driving..
