Former Saint John MP Wayne has stroke
Former Saint John Conservative MP Elsie Wayne suffered a stroke on Friday and is now in the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Brian Mosher, a Saint John lawyer who ran campaigns for Wayne, confirmed she is still in hospital.
Wayne suffered partial paralysis on one side but Mosher said she's improving.
Wayne, 77, won nine straight elections: from a Saint John council seat, to the mayor's office and ultimately, member of Parliament.
She did not run in the 2004 federal election, stepping down before ever losing an election.
Wayne is remembered for being one of only two Progressive Conservatives — along with current Quebec Premier Jean Charest — who were elected in the 1993 federal election.
