A fire that late Tuesday afternoon destroyed a poultry barn just outside Debec in Carleton County.

There were no chickens in the barn at 40 Ivey Rd. in Limestone, since the operation was changing stock.

Chief Greg Williams of the Debec Fire Department said the call came in around 4 p.m.

No one was injured in the blaze, which destroyed the building in minutes.

"It'll have to be torn down and then rebuilt," said Williams.

About 20 firefighters from Debec battled the blaze, along with 12 firefighters from Woodstock.

Williams said it took about an hour to get the fire under control and firefighters were there until 9:30 p.m.

Williams said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and firefighters will be on the scene again on Wednesday.
