Daycare operators face sex assault charges
Hedwidge Surette, 63, and Ronald Gaudet, 64, of Notre-Dame, ran daycare at their home
A couple from the southeastern community of Notre-Dame is facing several sex assault charges in connection with an unlicensed residential daycare.
Hedwidge Surette, 63, and Ronald Gaudet, 64, were charged Wednesday in Moncton provincial court with sexual interference, sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault by more than one accused against a single victim and forcible confinement.
The RCMP started an investigation after receiving a complaint about incidents alleged to have occurred at the daycare about 10 years ago, said Cpl. Phil Cyr.
"It's alleged the offences happened during the day when the daycare was operating," he said.
The daycare is no longer in business, he said.
The investigation is ongoing, said Cyr.
"We are reaching out to anybody that may have had children at this daycare to come forward with any type of allegations of this nature, or any adults that frequented this daycare when they were children to please come forward with any type of admission to this type of similar offences."
