Body of missing kayaker Donald Lavigne found
60-year-old Gloucester-Junction man reported missing Oct. 2
The body of a kayaker reported missing earlier this month has been found.
Bathurst RCMP said family members searching at the junction of the Nepisiguit River and the Bay of Chaleur discovered Donald Lavigne’s body on a sandbar Sunday around 2:30 p.m.
The 60-year-old Gloucester-Junction man was reported missing Oct. 2, after failing to return from a kayaking trip.
RCMP, with the help of the RCMP's dive team and ground search and rescue volunteers, had conducted extensive searches in the days after Lavigne had been reported missing, in the areas where his kayak and life jacket had been found.
The investigation continues and an autopsy has been ordered.
