More toxic waste in Ontario

Ontario has become a dumping ground for toxic waste.

That's the conclusion of a new report to be released today by the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy.

The report says imports of hazardous waste from the United States more than doubled between 1994 and 1998. The Institute says lax environmental laws in Ontario are to blame for the jump.

The report identifies Hamilton and Burlington as the largest producers of toxic waste in the province.

And it says a dump in Sarnia imports the most waste from the US.
