A 20-year-old Toronto woman is in hospital with serious head injuries after a car surfing accident in Brossard on Montreal's South Shore early Sunday morning.

Her sister, 17, was driving the SUV at the time and could be charged.

The group was driving around Brossard with three people – including the victim – standing upright on the rear bumper, according to Longueuil Police.

Around 1:30 a.m. they headed down Louisbourg Street, where the victim fell off and slammed into the pavement.

She was taken to a local hospital in critical condition with severe head injuries. Police said her condition improved midday.

The driver was arrested and questioned, and could face charges of dangerous driving and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

"She will be met by our major crimes unit investigators," said Longueuil Const. Gaétan Durocher.

Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the accident.

Louisbourg Street was closed for several hours to collect evidence from the scene.

Both women live in Toronto and were on the South Shore visiting friends.
