A tornado appears to have swept through a city near Montreal.

Authorities in St-Eustache, Que., say there were no immediate reports of any damage.

Environment Canada says radar and satellite images showed a powerful rainstorm, and that a tornado appeared to have landed Tuesday around 4 p.m. ET.

A violent-storms warning is in effect around Montreal. St-Eustache is on the edge of the city, just north of Laval.

Heavy rain and winds of up to 90 km/h are expected in the area on Tuesday evening.
