A security guard was shot during an armed bank robbery Thursday night in Pointe-Aux-Trembles.

Two suspects ambushed security guards inside the Banque Nationale around 9:30 p.m., Montreal police said.

"Shots were fired, but we can’t tell at this time if it’s only the suspects that did fire or whether the security agents fired back," said police spokesman Const.Yannick Ouimet.

One of the security guards was hit in the leg, police confirmed.

The second security guard "suffered a nervous breakdown," Ouimet said, and was unable to speak with police Thursday night.

The suspects fled carrying bags, which police said contained an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police believe a third suspect was waiting in a getaway vehicle, described as a dark-coloured minivan.
