Montreal police investigating after fire at seniors' residence kills 97-year-old woman

Montreal police have confirmed the death of a 97-year-old woman after a fire broke out at a private seniors' residence in the city's Anjou neighbourhood.

Montreal police's arson squad is investigating after a fire broke out at a private seniors residence in the Anjou borough, killing a 97-year-old woman who lived there.

Four other residents were taken to hospital, but were in stable condition. In all, 80 residents were forced to leave the three-storey home.

The 47-unit building, Résidence Anjou, is located on Joseph-Renaud Boulevard.

The Canadian Red Cross is providing assistance to residents who were forced to their leave homes.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
