The RCMP have raided a clandestine drug laboratory in Châteauguay, where they believe fentanyl and carfentanil were being processed.

About 30 federal police officers have been on scene at a residence near Sittelles Street since about 4 p.m., and are expected to remain on the scene until around 9 p.m.

While seizing the substance that will remain unknown for now, RCMP officers wore hazmat suits. The police force's clandestine lab dismantling team was at the scene, as was its forensic identification squad.

Châteauguay police and firefighters were also on the scene to help secure the area, according to RCMP spokesperson Cap. Camille Habel.

Four people, three men and one woman, were arrested and are expected to appear in court at a later date. They will likely face charges of possession and trafficking, Habel said.

The three men were arrested at a nearby store in the parking lot, and the woman was arrested in the residence.
