Fire damages vacant Queen Elizabeth Hotel

Investigators are trying to determine what caused Thursday afternoon’s fire at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Montreal.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused Thursday afternoon's fire at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Montreal.

About 60 firefighters were called to the hotel, on René-Lévesque Boulevard West, at around 1:30 p.m.

The fire started on the 16th floor, and then quickly spread to the 20th floor.

No one was injured.

There were no guests at the hotel because it is currently undergoing renovations.

Workers who were in the building at the time tried to extinguish the flames, but they quickly spread.

The extent of the damage is still unknown.
