PQ, Liberals tied at 37 per cent, poll suggests
59 per cent say they would vote against sovereignty in a referendum; 69 per cent want less talk of sovereignty
A new voter intention poll suggests the Parti Québécois and Quebec's Liberal Party tied at 37 per cent.
The internet poll was conducted by Léger Marketing for Le Devoir newspaper between March 11 and 13. It queried 1,205 people 18 years and older.
The poll found the Coalition Avenir Québec trailing far behind with 14 per cent of respondents saying they intended to vote for the party.
Nine per cent of those polled said they intended to vote for Québec Solidaire.
Majority would vote no in referendum on sovereignty
Asked how they would vote in a referendum on Quebec sovereignty, 59 per cent of respondents said they would vote against sovereignty while 41 per cent said they would vote for it.
Only 29 per cent of respondents said a PQ win in the April 7 election would give them a mandate to hold a referendum on sovereignty, while 54 per cent said it would not.
As to issues they want addressed during the election campaign, 85 per cent of respondents said they want to hear more talk about the economy and jobs and 84 per cent said they want to hear more on the subject of health care. Just under 70 per cent of respondents said they want to hear less about sovereignty and 63 per cent said they want to hear less about the PQ’s proposed secular charter.
