Quebec lifts ban on lighting open campfires
Wet weather conditions mean it's once again safe to use campfire sites
Quebec's forest fire prevention agency has lifted the ban on lighting open campfires that began Thursday due to dry weather conditions.
The news release said at the time that dry weather could lead to an elevated risk of forest fires.
Now the heavy rain means it is once again safe to use designated campfire areas.
So far this year, 94 fires have destroyed about 69 hectares of land.
"Co-operation from everyone is essential so that the ban on open fires in forests is respected," a statement from the ministry said, adding that anyone who violated the ban could face a fine.
