Quebec police raid of Hells Angels drug ring nets 28 arrests
235-officer raid started at 5 a.m.
One day after a major drug bust in southern Quebec netted 600,000 synthetic drug pills, another raid operation targeting a Hells Angels trafficking network is underway in the province.
About 235 officers from several local police forces and the RCMP are carrying out search warrants in 16 locations in Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships.
The raids began around 5 a.m. Wednesday and have resulted in the arrests of 28 people from nearby municipalities, as well as a seizure of small quantities of drugs.
Aurélie Guindon of Quebec provincial police said officers arrested at least one member of the Hells Angels.
She said the drug ring was managed by members of the gang, and trafficked cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.
Those arrested are facing charges of gangsterism, drug trafficking and conspiracy, among others, and are expected to appear in a Sherbrooke courtroom Wednesday.
