Quebec has released a $20 million plan to fight elder abuse, a growing problem in the province as the population ages.

The 40-point plan was crafted after months of public consultations with province-wide organizations that work with seniors.

Measures include a new senior hotline, that starting in the fall will provide access to professional services.

The plan also calls for a television ad campaign to draw attention to the problem of elder abuse, and a new research chair dedicated to senior issues at the University of Sherbrooke.

The measures were unveiled as several countries around the world mark International Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Tuesday.
