More than 50 Quebec firefighters were on the scene of a fire in Quebec City's Montcalm neighbourhood, working to control flames that broke out around 5:30 a.m.

Crews were called to a building which houses a restaurant, a bar and apartments at the corner of Sainte-Foy Road and Cartier Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Three firefighters have been brought to hospital with injuries.

All traffic was redirected away from Sainte-Foy — one of the main arteries for people heading downtown for work.

An apartment building next door was been evacuated and classes were cancelled at Joseph-François-Perrault high school for the day.
