Quebec CEGEP students heading back to school could be in for a surprise next week.

A walkout is planned for Monday, when 700 staff members will hit the picket lines for half a day to protest salary inequality and recent contract negotiations with the provincial government.

The strike will affect professional, non-teaching staff including administration, social workers and psychologists.

Staff will walk out from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 16 CEGEPS across Quebec, including some in Montreal and Quebec City.

The SPGQ, the union representing professional workers, says more strikes are planned for September and October if contract negotiations continue to stall.
