Montreal photographer Phil Carpenter is working on a book of photographs of Canadian women who have had mastectomies as a result of breast cancer.

Carpenter, who is a photojournalist at the Montreal Gazette, is taking portraits of 100 Canadian women.

His project is called "Beyond Mastectomy, does the breast make the woman?"

CBC host Jeanette Kelly spoke with Carpenter about his portraits.
