Montreal police are investigating after a 46-year-old woman was shot in Parc-Extension early Monday.

Around 12:30 a.m., police received calls about shots fired at an apartment building on Outremont Avenue near St-Roch Street.

Witnesses told officers who responded to the calls that the woman went to the hospital on her own, said Const. Manuel Couture.

Police searched various local hospitals until they found the victim, whose life is not in danger.

Couture said the shooter appears to have targeted a unit inside the building that is known for drug activity.

He said it is unclear whether the woman was the intended target.
