Montreal police are investigating a fire that destroyed a car wash on Pascal Gagnon Street in the city's north end early Monday morning.

The fire started a few minutes past midnight and caused major damage to the building, located near the corner Henri-Bourassa Boulevard.

Fire department officials issued orders for the structure to be torn down after it was declared too unstable.

Firefighters could not determine the cause of the fire and transferred the investigation to the Montreal police arson squad.
