Montreal crashes claim 3 lives New Year's weekend
2 deaths after crash of all-terrain vehicle
Three people in the Montreal area have died in New Year's weekend crashes, two of whom were involved in collisions involving an all-terrain vehicle.
On Sunday, a 16-year-old boy driving an ATV on a public road in Cookshire-Eaton just east of Sherbrooke, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and was killed in a crash. Another teen riding with him, a 15-year-old boy, was also ejected in the crash and taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
In Laval, a 24-year-old woman died in a car accident late New Year's Eve.
The accident happened when the driver, the woman’s partner, lost control of the car on Boulevard des Mille Îles and Rue Gariépy, police said.
The driver suffered minor injuries and he was expected to be released from hospital Sunday.
Police said alcohol, icy conditions and speed may have played a role.
