Twenty Montreal businesses are holding an open house today and are inviting the public in to meet the designers who created their interior spaces.

The restaurants, boutiques, bakeries and showrooms are all finalists in the 2015 Montreal's Commerce Design competition.

It's up to the public to vote on the jury's selection.

The annual competition is aimed at encouraging shop owners to use the services of professional designers to enhance their space.

"It benefits the citizens, the merchants and also the city to have great places to visit and shop," said Stéphanie Jecrois, a design commissioner with the Montreal Design Bureau.

"It's all about contributing to the economic development of the city and also the vitality of the neighbourhoods."
