The Montreal police arson squad is investigating after someone launched a Molotov cocktail into an accountant's office in one of the city’s northeast boroughs.

The incident happened just before 2 a.m. ET Friday on Renaude Lapointe Street in Anjou.

Const. Daniel Lacoursière said a window was broken in the office and the incendiary device was tossed in.

The building's sprinkler system activated and quickly put out the fire, he said. No one was in the office at the time.

Lacoursière said the majority of the damage to the building was related to water from the sprinklers.

Police didn't release any information on why the office was targeted and said they're still investigating.

No arrests have been made.
