A man was stabbed and a woman punched several times during an altercation on Monk Boulevard Saturday night.

Montreal Police were called to the scene near Springland Street shortly after 11 p.m.

Const. Raphael Bergeron said the man and woman were walking on the sidewalk when they were attacked by a group of six to eight people.

The 30-year-old man was stabbed in the upper body. His injuries are not life-threatening.

The 27-year-old woman suffered bruises after she was punched repeatedly, Bergeron said.

They were both rushed to hospital.

The suspects fled, but one was later arrested when a car spotted at the scene was located.

He will be questioned by police Sunday morning.

Bergeron said the motive behind the attack is still not clear.

"It could possibly be a dispute that took place somewhere else during the evening or the last couple of days that led to that altercation, but it’s still being investigated to determine the motive and what exactly caused that," he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
