Quebec provincial police arrested two young people after a chase through Montreal and Laval early Wednesday and are searching for a third, who may need medical help.

The chase started around 2:45 a.m. when police tried to pull over a car on Highway 15 near Queen Mary Road.

The vehicle, with three youths in it, sped off.

The driver avoided a spike strip that police used to try to stop the vehicle but eventually lost control and ended up in a field.

The three people in the car jumped out and ran, said police spokesperson Daniel Thibaudeau .

"One was quickly found and was treated in hospital for serious injuries," he said. "The driver was apprehended in the woods a bit later, and this is thanks to the Laval canine unit."

Two males were arrested and police are using a helicopter to look for a third. Thibaudeau said police are concerned he might need medical attention.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, said police, who believe the vehicle involved in the chase may have been stolen.
