Laval police are investigating after a body was found lying in the middle of Marcel Villeneuve Ave in the Saint-François district.

A 29-year-old motorist drove over the body around 2:30 a.m., thinking at first it was an object or an animal.

Laval Police Const. Evelyne Boudreau told CBC News that the driver was headed home from work when he saw something on the road that he couldn't avoid.

He contacted police immediately after and first responders declared the victim dead on the scene.

Police say they don't yet know if the man was already dead when struck, or if he was killed by the impact.

Laval police say the driver is currently not a suspect and that nothing at the scene leads them to believe he has committed a crime.

Police are still working to identify the male victim, saying that he had no ID on him but that they've ruled out the open missing person cases in Laval.
