Police in Kelowna, B.C., have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a fire that damaged Montreal's Centre Métropolitain de Chirurgie, one of the country's only clinics to perform gender-confirming surgery.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Ryan Fehler said Jayne Ellen Heideck, 42, was taken into custody Monday morning.

A Canada-wide warrant had been issued for Heideck in connection with the fire, which was set at the Ahunstic clinic in early May.

Fehler said the RCMP investigators will discuss the next steps in the case with Montreal police Tuesday morning.

Surgeries had to be postponed at the clinic because of the fire.
