Hochelaga-Maisonneuve fire leaves six families homeless
Flames cause extensive damage to two triplexes on Bourbonnière Street
Six families are homeless after a fire on Bourbonnière Street in Montreal’s Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough caused extensive damage to two triplexes.
The four-alarm fire broke out around 11 a.m. Monday in a shed behind one of the buildings.
The flames spread to that triplex and one next door and caused extensive damage to both buildings.
No injuries were reported and the Red Cross is helping the families.
The cause of the fire is not known but a fire department official says propane tanks for a barbecue were found stored in the shed where the fire started.
Such tanks should always be kept outside in the open air.
