Unconscious woman found at scene of Greenfield Park duplex fire
Victim was hospitalized and is expected to survive
A woman in her 50s is in hospital after a fire at a duplex in Greenfield Park late Thursday.
It started just after 11 p.m., in a building near the intersection of Vivian and Dorothy streets. It's still unclear where the fire started.
The woman was found unconscious in her home on the first floor. She was taken to hospital in critical condition but is expected to recover.
Joan Smithman lives on the second floor and says she was asleep when the fire broke out. Her neighbours told her they spotted the flames from their home.
She rushed out with her dog and both escaped unharmed.
The duplex was heavily damaged. There is black soot on the exterior of the building above the first-floor window, and two big windows in the front were smashed.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
