Firebombing probed in east-end Montreal

A fireboming in Pointe aux Trembles Wedensday night may be linked to street gangs.

Montreal police believe a firebombing in the east-end borough of Pointe-aux-Trembles Wednesday night may be linked to street gangs.

Police are investigating after someone threw a Molotov cocktail between two vehicles parked behind and apartment building on the corner of Marien Avenue and De la Gauchetière Street at around 8:30 p.m.

"It's a citizen who was near the scene who put out the fire," said Const. Danny Richer of the Montreal police.

"So far the investigation seems to indicate that the vehicle targeted is linked to street gangs. That's why the investigation has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad."

One of the vehicles belongs to a suspected member of a street gang, he said.

No one was injured in the attack.

Arson investigators are now speaking to witnesses.
