Firefighters uncover marijuana grow-op in Pierrefonds home

Montreal police are investigating after firefighters found a marijuana growing plant at a residence in Pierrefonds during an overnight fire.

Fire started around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on Lucerne Street near the corner of Sunnybrooke Boulevard

About 40 firefighters were called to a burning home in Pierrefonds early Tuesday morning and when they arrived they found no residents, just a marijuana grow-op.

Montreal police have launched a criminal investigation and will take over when firefighters are done at the scene.

The fire started at around 4:30 a.m. this morning on Lucerne Street near the corner of Sunnybrooke Boulevard. 

Electricity was cut in the area to fight the fire.

There was considerable damage to the home, but no one was injured. Police are looking for the owner.

''Investigators will be on their way this morning to do the analysis of the scene and try to understand a little bit more," said SPVM spokesperson Const. Jean-Pierre Brabant. 

Police have not made any arrests and that the exact cause of the fire is unknown.
