A former Montreal man has been charged with murder after his son and daughter were shot at his home in Texas.
Predrag Perisic has been charged in connection to the death of his son, 10-year-old Deyan, who died Monday in Coldspring, near Houston.
Deyan's 12-year-old sister, Danyela, is recovering in hospital from gunshot wounds.
The San Jacinto County Sheriff's Department said the shooting happened Monday when officers were entering the home to arrest Perisic on charges of child custody interference.
Police heard gunshots from the second floor and found two children bleeding.
Both children were transported to hospital, where Deyan was pronounced dead and Danyela was listed in stable condition.
Perisic, who was supposed to return the children to his estranged wife in Montreal, was taken into custody.
According to a document obtained by the CBC, Perisic had violated an order by the Quebec Superior Court awarding custody to the children's mother.
While living in Texas with the children, he was ordered to return them to their mother in early November, but failed to and disappeared with the children until police found him Monday in Coldspring.
The photos of both children had been put on several missing children websites, with their well-being considered in danger.
The children's mother, Montrealer Vera Vucerakovich, reportedly travelled from Montreal to Texas on Tuesday.
