Police are investigating the murder of an 82-year-old Dorval public nursing home resident who died almost a year ago.

The man was taken to hospital with injuries on Dec. 16, 2012 and died a few days later, however, the coroner has only now determined he was murdered.

Montreal police spokesman, Const. Denis Richer, said the coroner has transferred the case to their major crimes unit.

“The investigators will definitely be meeting with the witnesses, talk with the ones who were working at the centre, who were working on this night and will try to get any new information on that case,” said Richer.

Richer says he cannot provide more details about the nature of the victim's injuries, because an investigation is underway.
