Councillor challenges radio host to boxing match

A city councillor in Saguenay has challenged a local radio personality to a fight in the boxing ring because of the things he has been saying about the councillor and his family.

A city councillor in Saguenay has challenged a local radio personality to a fight in the boxing ring because of the things he has been saying about him and his family.

Coun. Marc Pettersen said Carl Monette, the host of KYK Radio X, has repeatedly made defamatory remarks about him and his wife and children ever since he ran for the Liberals in the last federal election.

He said Tuesday he can stand the personal attacks on him, but, he said,  Monette crossed the line when he attacked his family.

Pettersen said he's had enough of that. So he's challenging Monette to a boxing match.

"He always hides behind his mic. But in a [boxing] ring he will not be able to hide," Pettersen said

He said he's already training for the event, which he hopes will happen in October.

It was the hot topic on Monette's morning radio show Tuesday.

But the 31-year-old radio host isn't sold on the idea.

"I hope he's going to pass some tests. You know what I mean? He's 54. He's overweight. He's old. You know, I'm not going to fight my granddad," Monette said.

Monette says it is stupid that Pettersen wants to use his fists to settle their differences, instead of his mouth.

Pettersen hopes the bout will be turned into a charity event.

He said he'd prefer to fight in the ring than in a courtroom.
