Body found in Lafontaine Park pond
Police say the man was homeless
Police are investigating after a man's body was found in a pond in Montreal's Lafontaine Park on Sunday.
Firefighters retrieved the body after it was spotted around 4:50 p.m., floating in the pond behind Théâtre de Verdure in one of the city's most popular parks.
Police said Monday morning the man was homeless and in his fifties.
"So far nothing indicates that criminal acts...have been committed," said Const. Anie Lemieux. "He didn't seem to have any apparent injuries."
Police said the body had been in the water for more than a day.
An autopsy will be done in the coming days to determine the cause of death.
According to French-language daily La Presse, several people had noticed something resembling a body in the water on Friday and Saturday.
